Check from several continents and only get paged when more than one agrees.
Choose which locations check each monitor. Checks rotate between the selected regions so consecutive checks come from different places, and every check, incident and alert records where it was observed from.

Fail threshold
The number of consecutive failed checks from one region before that region is considered down. The default of 2 filters out one-off network blips.
Confirmation
How many regions must agree before an incident is opened and alerts go out. With 3 regions and confirmation 2, a single location losing connectivity never pages you. Recovery is declared only when every selected region is healthy again.
Tip
Critical production: 10 to 30 second interval, threshold 2, confirmation 2 across three regions. Internal tools: 5 minute interval, threshold 2, one region.
